Cycle-90° "The Dance of the Winds"

National Center for Traditional Arts
Taipei Taiwan
When the wind, carrying the scents of people’s lives and the city, blows through the stage space of the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center’s “One Table, Two Chairs,” the sculptures move with the wind, becoming dancers who perform the dance of the breeze. Though invisible in nature, the wind is made visible through the movement of the sculptures, expressing gentle breezes, chilling winds, and fierce gusts—each reflecting the emotions of the city at different moments.
The simplified geometric forms embody the most natural shapes of the wind, capturing the aesthetic of motion that theatre, music, and dance have pursued since ancient times.
The wing-like form divided into four squares, together with the metallic texture, conveys an abstraction and symbolism that harmonize with the architectural concept of “One Table, Two Chairs.” As an installation, it orchestrates a comprehensive performance of “Wind Dance” with the irregular and improvisational interplay of wind, light, and water that flows through the architectural space.
We hope this landmark monument will always stand with the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center, offering visitors a space of wind, light, and water to savor the anticipation before a performance and the lingering resonance after the curtain falls.
